Objects don't have Consciousness

Updated: Oct 29, 2020

Some beliefs take time to completely dissolve.

Beliefs are the foundation of the imagined separate self and the illusory world. Truth seekers dissolve beliefs by seeing that they are not true. It is the only way to give up a belief.

So we chip away. Mostly they are pebbles we are chipping away. The pebbles are dropping but the foundation is still solid.

The pebbles represent mostly life stuff. The pebbles relate directly to the person and his/her story. They are beliefs and lies whose dissolution help us to be happier. My anxiety is gone and I am starting to love more.

That's good. Happiness is good. But the foundation is still solid. I like myself more but there is still a sense of lack from time to time lingering in the background waiting to be triggered by whatever. It's OK, because it is the bad cop telling me that I got more work to do. Therefore, a sense of lack is never a bad thing. We just need to recognize it and be honest with ourselves for what it is (note to self).

So in the pursuit of happiness, we do all kinds of things to avoid feeling the sense of lack. This list is of pursuits is endless; career, house, kids, money, car, vacation, cottage, perfect relationship, substances, approval from others (Trump), yada yada yada. Once we fix one problem another will undoubtedly surface. Like a monkey letting go of one branch while at the same time reaching for another. It will never end.

The problem is the sense of lack is built on a very solid foundation. Specifically, I must believe that I am my own conscious entity for a sense of lack to appear. The belief to be a fragment. Separate from the whole. This is the foundation that needs to crumble to be completely liberated. This is the most practical place to spend your energy if your goal is peace and happiness (this is always the goal...and it is the definition of seeking BTW)

Some beliefs just take time. Getting a glimpse once or twice is not enough in most cases. Why? Because they have deep roots. Such as the deeply held belief that it is objects that are aware. That it is this body that is aware. That my dog Rudy is aware. That the penguin on the rock in Antarctica is aware. These are deeply held beliefs. But are they true? Are they consistent with my experience and my intelligence? Do they stand up when fully investigated in an unbiased way? We need to adopt the mentality and behavior of a true scientist. A true scientist follows the evidence. He doesn't try and make the evidence fit a pre-determined metaphysics.

Objects are not Aware. Objects do not have Awareness. This belief is going to take some time to completely dissolve. This is a big pillar. Much bigger than a pebble.

This is the kind of stuff that can't be rushed. Nevertheless, truth seekers run experiments. We investigate our experience. Why do we do this? Because we love it. Truth for truth's sake (to borrow a familiar refrain from Jac O'Keeffe)

We see clearly, time and time again, that this belief is not true. Awareness is Aware. But for some reason it just takes time. I am starting to see clearly now that it just takes some time. I don't need to know how. Just let go and let God as they say.

Tonight I am seeing clearly that Adyanshant was right "Nothing you believe is true" Nothing. It doesn't make sense until it does.

We all know the experience of Consciousness. I am Consciousness. It is something that is actually impossible to deny. We need to start here. This needs to be clear. "I" is the name we give to that which is Aware.

The problem is that we have identified Consciousness with an object. A body. This is the mistake. I believe Francis said it is the original sin. The fall from Grace. It is why Lucifer was cast out. Lucifer believed he had his own light. Lucifer was wrong. The light of Awareness does not come from a body. The body is illuminated by Awareness. Like the sun illuminating the world.

Sorry, if I am sounding all spiritual, or perhaps poetic. But experiencing the truth just brings those words out sometimes. I am trying to simplify. And it is simple. It is a case of mistaken identity. Who's aware? I am. In other words; I = Awareness. Its just that Awareness is not located, limited, separate, or dependent on the body for its existence. Existence/Awareness has objects, objects don't have existence.

Adyashanti said, "Nothing you believe is true", however, it might be more accurate to say "the exact opposite of what you currently believe is closer to the truth"

We believe the universe is the reality in which "I" this small person exists. And somewhere inside me is this flicker of Consciousness that comes and goes. This ephemeral little light that exists somewhere in my body and will die when the body dies. In this world view, Consciousness is tiny, and the Cosmos is huge. The opposite is true. Awareness is the biggest piece. In fact, there is only Awareness. It is the Reality of our experience.

As Francis said, "We are not so much an object as we are an experience" Pure Experiencing is one way to describe what I am. These are the words but as Francis said "at some point you need to eat the cake...I can't eat it for you"

Understanding the Reality of experience is the key that unlocks all of the doors. At least for me. So let me end with something to contemplate whenever you feel like it. Whenever your enthusiasm for the truth moves you.

Thoughts and perceptions share the same reality. Investigate your experience. They both appear and disappear in the same space of Awareness. Therefore, thoughts and perceptions are made out of the same stuff...What is that stuff?

In an attempt to keep things fresh, tonight I am calling that stuff "Pure" rather than Consciousness. We all have equal access to that 'stuff'. I am not a thing. I am that.

I like "pure." And nothing is not pure, and nothing needs to be purified. Thanks for this!
